Question:

I have a 22 tandem torsion axle boat trailer that originally came with stainless disc brakes. The previous owner removed all brake components and lines. I am looking to install essentially an entirely new brake system. The only remaining component of the previous system is the tongue actuator which will need to be replaced as well. Can you send me a quote for your recommended system? Again, I have two 3500lb torsion axles. I have looked at the Kodiak system on your site however reviews have mentioned missing hardware. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

I am happy to assist you in replacing the brake system on the boat trailer. However, I need to know the bolt pattern and the bearings that you need to insure the disc brake rotors fit your trailer. One way to figure out which bearings you need is to pull the hub and check to see if the bearing numbers are stamped to the side of the bearing. If you do not have the bearings any longer or they are damaged, you can measure the spindle with a digital caliper part # PTW80157.

I have attached a diagram showing where on the spindle to measure for bearing, seals and races. I will also need to know the bolt pattern and size of your existing wheels. I have attached a helpful article regarding how to measure for bolt pattern. The most common bolt pattern for 3500 lb axles is 5 on 4-1/2. I recommend to measure from the center of one lug to the center of the lug nearest to it.

If the distance is:
2-5/8" - the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2
2-3/4" - the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4
3" - the bolt pattern is 5 on 5
3-1/4" - the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2

Please keep in mind if you are trying to convert to electric over hydraulic disc brakes you will need a brake controller in the tow vehicle so if you could provide me with the year make and model of your vehicle that is helpful as well. Electric over hydraulic disc brakes are the best option because you get the braking power of hydraulic brakes but with the convenience of less maintenance of electric brakes. If you can provide this information I can make a recommendation.
