We carry two front mount hitches for your 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe. The Curt Front Hitch, # 31042 is a bolt-on hitch that does not require any welding or drilling to install, however, it will only fit 4WD models.
If you have a 2WD model, then you will need to get the Draw-Tite Front Mount Hitch, # 65005. This is also a bolt-on application, however, some vehicles may not have a third enlarged hole drilled through the frame and if this is the case you will need to drill a 1/2 inch hole in the frame using the hitch as a template. All mounting hardware is included with both hitches.
I have attached the installation instructions of both hitches for you to check out.
