Size of Hole Needed to Install PVC Grommet # a70gb in Thicker Mounting Surface

Question:
Hello! The standard template cutout is 6 3/4inch X 2 1/2. However, when installing in thicker material 1/4inch plate in my case it requires a larger cut. Can you tell me what that is? Thanks much!

The ribs of the PVC Grommet for 6-1/2" Oval Trailer Tail Lights # a70gb do push further into the light assembly when you attempt to install on a thicker mounting surface. Since the ribs are on the top and bottom you'd just need to open the hold up to 2-5/8 inches vertically and the same 6-3/4 inches left to right and you'd be good.
