Class III Hitch Receiver Recommendation for 1987 Ford F-150 with 37-1/4 Inch Frame

Question:

Hi, I see that the Curt #14001 will fit a 1987 F150 with ~37-1/4inch frame width. However it is a Class IV which is a bit overkill for an old F150. Is there a Class III Curt receiver or other USA made brand that will fit this truck and frame width? Thank you!

I do have a Class III hitch that fits your 1987 Ford F-150 with a 37-1/4 inch frame, however, it's not a Curt.

Take a look at the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver Class III # 75038. This hitch receiver has a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs and a tongue weight rating of 500 lbs, which is more in line with the towing capacity of your F-150. It also features a concealed crosstube design, just like the Curt # 14001. That being said, Draw-Tite hitches are not manufactured in the USA.

If you're set on buying a national product, then the Curt Class IV Receiver Hitch # 14001 is your best option. There are a few other hitch receivers compatible with your truck but they are all going to be rated even higher (Class V).

If you're towing a trailer, I also recommend the plug and play Curt T-Connector # C55316.
