Question:

Will the rear hatch open once the 20 x 48 cargo carrier is installed and loaded? Also, will the suvs license plate need to be re-positioned?

With the Curt cargo carrier, # C18145, installed, you should not have any problems opening the rear hatch on your 2006 Acura MDX. To be certain, you can take some measurements. Measure from the top of the receiver opening up 5-1/2 inches, and then out 6 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole. This is where the nearest part of the carrier will be to the vehicle when installed. I have included some links on the Curt carrier for you.

Given the position of the license plate holder on the 2006 Acura MDX, it is unlikely the carrier would block the license plate unless something tall was loaded onto it. In that case, you could use a license plate bracket, like # LP15SB, and attach it to the back of the carrier with self-tapping screws from a hardware store.
