Question:

I can see the two wires coming off this coupler, but do I just wire those to a toggle switch on in the vehicle, and then when I want to back up, I just flip the switch, or do you sell some complimentary part to go with this coupler that needs to be used? thank you!

The two wires you mention are attached to the reverse lock-out solenoid # T4748800. One lead would be grounded to the trailer frame, the other attaches to the wire that comes off the center pin of the trailer connector. You will need to ensure that the center pin for the trailer connector on the vehicle is tapped into the reverse light circuit on the vehicle. You can test this by placing the transmission in reverse while testing the center pin of the trailer connector using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993.

When the vehicle transmission is placed in reverse, the reverse light circuit on the vehicle gets power. This voltage runs to the center pin on the 7-way trailer connector to the trailer and runs to the solenoid. The solenoid locks out the coupler, allowing you to back up the trailer without the brakes actuating. If you are using a 5-pole connector, the blue wire from the connector would tap into the reverse light circuit.
