Availability of 2 Inch Trailer Hitch for 2018 VW Golf to Use with 2 Inch Bike Rack

hey there! I am looking to see if it is possible to install a 2inch hitch on my 2018 VW golf? my boyfriend has a bike rack that is only compatible with a 2inch receiver and we would really like to avoid having to buy a new bike rack for my car as well. thank you very much!

We definitely have a way for you to use your boyfriend's bike rack on your 2018 VW Golf, whether its with an appropriately sized trailer hitch receiver or with a separate adapter.
First, if your VW Golf happens to be the GTI or R model then we do have a 2 inch trailer hitch available. For the GTI you will use the EcoHitch # 306-X7375 and for the R model you would use the EcoHitch # 306-X7332. Both models offer a really sleek hidden crosstube design that allows for a clean OEM appearance along with the needed 2 inch receiver that's directly compatible with your existing bike rack.
If your VW Golf isn't the GTI or R model there is only a 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch available with the Curt # C11412. With this hitch installed though you can use the Brophy Hitch Adapter # HTAD to expand it into a 2 inch receiver opening. This simply inserts into the 1-1/4 inch receiver to provide the larger receiver at the other end for your rack (or any other 2 inch accessories you may have).
Please just keep in mind that when using this or any other adapter the trailer hitch capacity will be reduced by 50 percent. This means that the 200 pound tongue weight capacity on the mentioned Curt hitch will be reduced to 100 pounds when using the adapter. Just make sure the combined weight of the bike rack and loaded bikes do not exceed this number.
