Hidden Cross Tube for a Clean, Factory Look

The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. The hitch's cross tube bolts onto your vehicle's frame, behind your rear bumper. No drilling or welding is required. Once the hitch is installed, only the receiver will be visible beneath your bumper. This means that your vehicle can maintain its stylish, from-the-factory look, and you won't have to do any major modifications to its body or frame.

Eco-Friendly Material

With a combination of aerospace-grade aluminum, steel, and stainless steel, each EcoHitch is made of a strong metal alloy that will withstand the test of time. The lightweight alloy is composed of recycled materials. Traditional steel hitch manufacturing can use coal or oil, which can contribute to harmful gas emissions. The EcoHitch's recycled materials limit the carbon footprint during manufacturing, so you get a sturdy trailer hitch while also helping the environment.

Rigorous Strength Testing Ensures Durability

This EcoHitch trailer hitch is tested for durability and sturdiness. Using Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA), individual points of stress on the hitch can be detected and remedied. Designers can accurately test the hitch to ensure that it will meet or exceed SAE J684 standards. The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is carefully researched and strength tested for a durable, high-quality hitch that can resist damage while on the road.

In general I do like the hitch and would give it 5 starts. But there are a few problems: a) It's not 100% compatible with the 2019 Golf R b) The instructions that I found for trimming the bottom part of the bumper are not correct either. The compatibility issue is related to the mounting bolts. The 2019 Golf R in the US comes with blind spot monitors. The sensors are mounted at the rear corners of the car and use the impact bar bolts to mount. On the driver side that's not a problem, since they just get "sandwiched" under the mounting bolts. But on the passenger side they use bolts with threads on both sides and get mounted to the skinnier end (see pictures). Yet, the mounting HW kit for the hitch does not come with those screws - which basically means you are screwed. Technically you are not supposed to use the factory screws and you can't use the screws that come with the hitch. Regarding the trimming instructions - the cutout has to be at least 4" wide and also at least half an inch deeper than the drawings that were posted here. Also, when you install it don't use a ramp like I did, use stands so that the wheels are hanging off the car - that'll give you more room when dealing with the screws in the wheel well. I used a car jack to lift the car up a bit so that I can get in there...

After a year Im still very happy with the hitch. Im using it at least every other weekend with my Küat Sherpa bike rack. And I have not had any problems with the hitch.

Product was not welded straight, II had to use some force to make it square with the car, see details. Once I was able to adjust the shape of the hitch square. it fit excellent and tested with a bicycle rack. I originally went with this product because it sits higher than the rest of the alternatives on the market, and the stealth mounting is a win for sport car appearance.

Comments
Hitch is sitting solid,I use it for my MTB weekends only. Hitch is showing some signs of rust in the corners and angles, I guess it is unavoidable in NY weather. Im getting compliments on the way this hitch looks and letting people know I got if from you guys. thanks

The product is solid, functional and looks great. The directions were a little difficult to follow and in some cases incorrect. I had to find a video on etrailer, and one on youtube to verify the odd wording in the directions. listed issues with directions: * I had to reuse two OE bolts as the ones that came weren't compatible with my 2019 sensor attachment on the rear passenger side (2 ouside bolts). * the hanger bolts were confusing, the directions make it seem the mounting bolts are the temporary hanging bolts. look closely and the images on the online directions and use logic. * the valence needed a 4 1/4" cutout to allow for the receiver to pass through instead of the recommend 3 1/4" cut out * the directions didn't mention anything about the foam on the bumper. It fits back on. The result was really nice though. It's almost completely hidden and looks pretty much stock. I'm very impressed overall. The job wasn't hard, but very time consuming ~3Hrs of slow careful work so as not to break anything. Hope this was helpful

The ecoHitch hidden trailer hitch installed flawlessly with no issues on my 2015 Golf R. The install took less then 2 hours with my mechanic and the instructions made everything go through super smooth. I would advise cutting the notch for the bumper a little smaller then the instructions ask for as it makes the bumper more flush to the hitch. Very pleased with the results and the look. Very flush.

The hitch was easy to install and the directions and video were exact in what needed to be done. Took about 2 hrs to install. Looks great and like it was made to be part of the car. We will use it for a bike rack. Impressive and the quality of the hitch was excellent.

2019 Volkswagen Golf

Overall a good product. Cool they offer a 2 inch hitch on a vw golf/gti. Not made from aluminum as stated in the description. Heavy steel. Install note: this does fit a 2019 Golf/ non GTI but not without major trimming of the skirt. The instructions call for a two inch notch to clear the receiver, but on the 2019 golf the skirt juts in two inches higher than a GTI or Golf R. I had to trim a two foot section off the skirt of the bumper basically exposing the entire draw bar in the process. It still looks fine, is higher than other hitches, but it is definitely not hidden anymore. Still like it due to the bigger receiver opening. Much better for using with a bike rack on bumpy dirt roads.

2019 Volkswagen Golf

Easy install but does not fit under the bumper cover seamlessly, bulges the plastic “diffuser” in 2 high spots(2019 golf). Other than that it’s solid.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

I've had the EcoHitch on my vehicle now for about a year (and about 30,000 miles - I commute 200 miles to work each day). My goal was to continue to use my Thule Vertex Bike Rack. It does work with that rack, perfectly. It seems pretty robust (I've been able to step on it when I had to clear some heavy snow off the roof of my car) and after a year, I haven't had to make any adjustments. I think it blends into the car nicely. And, it did not impact my gas mileage (~40 mpg highway). I will say - I found out almost instantly that this will change the way you drive the vehicle (at least in Colorado) because it takes very little to bottom out. I've left some grooves in friends' pavement after backing out of driveways and I have hit coming in to parking lots, going over speed bumps, and if there are any drainage ditches that have a steeper angle. Add the bike rack - I've hit that pretty good too (thankfully, not with the bike). To fix this issue, I decided earlier this year to lift the back end of the car by having the towing springs installed to lift the clearance by about 2". They get installed in May, so I'll update this to see if that resolves the bottoming out on the hitch. I didn't originally rate this product because honestly I was so angry at how poor the installation went. The instructions were difficult to follow (complicated by how I then found corrected instructions online) and I was sent the wrong bolts (<-- if that had been my only problem, no biggie. My friend Ace Hardware is just down the street). Something I felt should take maybe a day if I was super careful ended up taking 2 because the instruction mixup (I put the hitch on twice. Second time was able to install my bumper again too. Ha). Despite my installation woes - I think this is a great product for the car. I really hope the towing springs solve my bottoming out (I'm not looking to be an SUV - just be able to pull into my parking lot at work with the bike rack on the vehicle ha).

Comments
So Ive had the hitch on with the towing springs installed for about a year now and what a difference! I havent hit the hitch or bike rack since installing the towing springs, and I took it up into the mountains several times last summer. The hitch has been solid and sturdy, works perfectly with my bike rack and I think it blends in with the vehicle pretty well. I recommend, but also recommend thinking about the towing springs if you decide to install the hitch on this vehicle.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

Fits perfectly, and was not too hard to install. I waited a little while to review this so I could test it out, make sure there was no long term issue. When installing, one of my bolts holding the tow bracket on broke loose of its weld, and required that I cut the bolt off, which was not too difficult, but be aware and be ready to do this as it is a possibility. Tows my new trailer very well. I found a 6" rise did the trick for me, though that may vary based on your trailer. The most I have towed is about 700lbs, though it feels capable of far exceeding that. I would be cautious of not exceeding the tongue weight though, as the car is a unibody design. The instructions are not the best, and you will need to widen one of the holes for the rectangular spacer to fit. There is a good [online] video out there that shows this very well

Comments
One year later, working great. Ive towed as much as 1400, and though I can feel it, the car pulls it no problem. Well worth the investment

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

The installation of the hitch on my '17 AllTrack was fairly straight forward with a couple of caveats. The Instructions did not address the parking sensors on the sides, or the harness plug behind the bumper cover. There was also considerably more trimming required than what was referenced in the instructions, both width, and depth. The instructions covered both their 1 1/4" and 2" receivers. Finally, there was no tool list in the instructions. Thankfully etrailer had a comprehensive video on how to do it that I was able to follow along with. Total time from start to finish, including jacking the rear of the car up and taking the wheels off, and polishing my exhaust tips, was just over two hours. The craftsmanship of the hitch is great and if the instructions were more clear I would have given it five stars.

I have used the hitch extensively for hauling mountain bikes all over kingdom come. It has performed flawlessly. I continue to be very happy with my purchase.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

This is great for my Subaru Impreza hatchback. I was worried because the car is so low, but the hitch doesn't stick down too far, it's great. I use it for my Thule Helium Platform 1 bike rack... The whole thing is just what I wanted. I even went over a big dip in the road and no scraping.

This has been a perfect experience. Id been worried the hitch might hit ground on bumps, but knock wood it hasnt yet. Its now easy to install my bike rack, which I also love.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

etrailer's 2016 Prius V and 2017 Prius V videos were great. Followed the vid step-by-step. The paper instructions from Torklift were next to useless for me; tried reading but couldn't follow. Definitely suggest having a second hand on standby while you are installing under the car. etrailer's customer service was great. Kept me informed the entire way, even though they were short staffed and took longer than useless to ship out order; understandable during these times. Sit flush, clean, and neatly tucked underneath bumper. Glad I got this over the cheaper lower hanging ones 1.25" options. Problems: No where, either from Torklift or etrailer, did it specify that I needed TWO 19mm sockets. So when it was time to tighten the bracket bolts, I had to make due w/ one 19mm socket and clamps. It was a giant PIA. Added close to an hour to install. One major problem I discovered is inside of the hitch receiver is not coated properly, making it susceptible to rust. I installed it on Sunday. Monday night had a rainstorm come through (no rubber hitch cover yet since it's coming in the mail). Tues morning I discover rust inside the receiver already. I haven't even used this hitch yet. If I had left it uncovered for months it'd be understandable, but after one night of rain? I can and will obviously spray inside receiver w/ some rust enamel protection, but for a new xxx+$ hitch, I would expect Torklift to properly coat their hitch inside and out. I tried cleaning off the best I could but there's still rust where water sat overnight; you can see in the picture.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

Hitch is excellent quality, fit my 2010 Prius almost perfectly and installation was technically very easy. I'd recommend heeding the advice to mark where you're trimming the fairing before removal as it doesn't appear to be dead center once removed. Besides a few of the 10 year old brittle bumper clips breaking, installation was as easy as the two other hitches I've installed. It fits almost snug against the bottom of the bumper, my rack hasn't bottomed out on anything yet amazingly, ends up being fairly close to the rear axle.

Comments
Flawlessly. Ive left my rack installed the past year with zero issues. Totally worth the extra cost for the 2 rather than fooling around with adapters, completely solid.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

Very pleased with this purchase. The vehicle design (2018 Nissan Leaf SL) makes hitch installation tricky, but this hitch comes with everything needed to make it as easy as possible. It includes all the required hardware and a fish to help get the bolts through the frame. There are helpful videos out there to learn how to install it. Looks great (and mostly hidden) when installed. You have to make a small cutout in an underbody panel but that's not at all visible unless you're looking under the car.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

I originally had the Curt class III hitch, but it hangs to low and the draw bar would scrape on some hills around my house. I bought this as a replacement because the ground clearance is almost 2 inches higher. The actual hitch fits tight to the body and seems well built. It didn't come with the installation hardware, but that was delivered about a week later. etrailer had to get hardware from eco hitch. The main issue with this product is rust. After three weeks of being installed, I had alot of surface rust. I reached out to eco hitch to find out why. They said there warranty doesn't cover rust and recommended steel wool and paint, but, I could send pictures for review. I never heard back. They have an option on their site for custom powder coating, but the the stock coating is terrible. This hitch is twice as much as the Curt and doesn't appear to be corrosion resistant at all. If you go with this hitch, prior to install, paint it. With no warranty to speak of, I now have to uninstall the hitch and paint the hitch, and reinstall. I have had 4 hitches from hidden hitch and Curt, but never seen anything rust the fast. Eco hitch should be embarrassed by the quality of the coating and lack of support.

Looks great, had some difficulty placing the underbody plastic panel on the driver side back on due to the length of the bolts (see attached picture 5899). I had to remover and re-insert them from outside inward so the length of the bolt went towards the spare tire (it does not hit it), Overall looks great and will see how it handles towing my small trailer.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

Just finished installing this a few moment ago and I have to say that it really looks good on our 2014 Outback 3.6R. The low profile of the receiver barely extends beyond the line of the mufflers. I dont think it will be as much of a consideration when backing into a parking stall as other systems that I have seen. There were minor issues that I ran into with the install, so it took me about 3 hours to get this mounted at home with no extra help. I also decided to do the bumper removal method. I felt comfortable removing the trim, and it had the added bonus of giving me more room to work. If you dont have an extra set of hands to help align the hitch to the bolts, you can use a ratchet strap thrown around the hinges for the rear hatch. Hook into the loops where you normally place your trailer chains and take up the weight of the hitch. This will allow just enough support so you can have both hands to start aligning the bolts to the hitch. Lastly, I decided to torque everything down and suspended the muffler before I reattached the bumper bar and trim. The part that was the most difficult for me was getting the dual exhaust remounted onto the rubber bungs. I ended up having to grind off about 3/4-1 inch of the rearmost post on the muffler to get it back into the bung hole. I look forward to pulling a trailer and seeing how everything holds up down the road.

Comments
This hitch has done wonders for us in terms of being able to haul things around. We used it to tow a trailer across the country last year when the other half got a new job back home. The car and hitch combination made this all possible. We have also purchased a cargo tray to help move extra gear when we cant take up more room in the car for camping trips. If you are looking to get this, or any hitch system for an outback, I recommend also getting an adjustable ball mount, and some helper springs. It may stiffen up the ride, but youll reduce the risk of scraping the bottom of your car or whatever you may be towing.

  • Parts Needed To Tow a Trailer Using EcoHitch On 2016 VW Golf R
The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7332 is an excellent option for a 2016 Volkswagen Golf R. It can be used for towing but you'll also need a trailer wiring harness and ball mount/hitch ball. For a trailer wiring harness, I recommend the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter part # C59236. For the ball mount/hitch ball, you'll need to measure to get this right. I have attached an article below. If the Curt Ball Mount part # C45112 ends up being correct you can use the...

  • Will the EcoHitch Stealth Fit a 2019 Volkswagen Golf R
The EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7375 is not a fit for the 2019 Volkswagen Golf R, only the 2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI but the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7332 is a fit for the 2019 Volkswagen Golf R. The only difference between the EcoHitch Stealth and EcoHitch Hidden is that the Stealth has a removable receiver tube whereas the Hidden has a fixed receiver tube. That said, the Hidden receiver tube sits right under the rear bumper fascia and there...

  • Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Vs EcoHitch Trailer Hitch for 2019 VW Golf R
The best hitch for your 2019 Volkswagen Golf R is the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7332 because it is the only hitch currently with a 2" receiver tube. The big benefit to having a 2" receiver is the wide variety of accessories, like bike racks and cargo carriers. Ecohitch also makes a hitch with 1 1/4" reciever tube # 306-X7333 The Draw-tite # 24975 is a class I, so it has a 1 1/4" receiver tube opening. This limits the hitch to class I accessories and really narrows...

  • What is Cut Out Dimension for EcoHitch and Draw Tite for 2019 Volkswagen Golf R
For your 2019 Volkswagen Golf R the cutout of the Draw-Tite Sportframe # 24975 is 3-1/2" x 2-1/2" while for the EcoHitch # 306-X7333 and # 306-X7332 it is 3-1/4" x 3". I attached diagrams for both hitches that we got from the manufacturers for you to check out as well.

  • Hitch Recommendation For A 2018 Volkswagen Golf R
Depending on what you intend on using your hitch for, you can select either the 1-1/4" hitch or a 2" receiver. A 2 inch Class III or higher trailer hitch generally will be stronger just by the nature of how much steel is used and the fact that 2 inch trailer hitches are built larger and with more towing capacity in mind. While there is no additional capacity provided, a 2" could provide flexibility to carry more accessories. The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7332 is...

  • Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch vs. EcoHitch Trailer Hitch for 2019 VW Golf R
There are three trailer hitches which fit your 2019 VW Golf R model, the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24975, EcoHitch Trailer Hitch # 306-X7333 (1-1/4" receiver) and # 306-X7332 (2" receiver), but I recommend the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7332 because of two important differences, which are its 2" receiver and the fact it gives you the best ground clearance. The 2" receiver is important because this gives you a much wider range of options when it comes to the accessories...

  • How Much Does Rear Bumper Fascia Need to Be Notched to Install Hitch on 2019 Volkswagen Golf R
To install the EcoHitch # 306-X7333 or # 306-X7332 on a 2019 VW Golf R, a notch measuring 3 x 3-1/4 inches would need to be made in the underside of the bumper fascia. For the Draw-Tite # 24975, the notch would be a bit smaller at 3-1/2 inches by 2-1/2 inches, also on the underside of the fascia. For all three hitches, the notch isn't noticeable from the rear, only if you're looking up at the underside of the bumper. If I had to personally choose between the 3, I'd go with the EcoHitch...

  • Cutout Dimensions for Draw-Tite and EcoHitch Trailer Hitches on a 2018 Volkswagen Golf R
The cutout of the Draw-Tite Sportframe # 24975 is 3-1/2" x 2-1/2" while for the EcoHitch # 306-X7333 and # 306-X7332 it is 3-1/4" x 3". Since the cutouts are relatively the same I highly recommend going with the EcoHitch # 306-X7332 because it gives you a 2" receiver over the 1-1/4" receiver size for the other 2 hitches. The larger receiver size means that you can use more accessories for your 2018 Volkswagen Golf R model. Just be sure not to exceed the weight capacity of your Volkswagen. If...

  • Fit of EcoHitch # 306-X7309 on 2017 Volkswagen Golf GTI
The EcoHitch # 306-X7309 receiver hitch you mentioned is a fit for the 2017 VW Golf GTI, as long as it's not an R model, as confirmed by EcoHitch. If your vehicle is an R model, you'd want to use # 306-X7332. The hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 300 lbs, so you'll want to ensure the weight of your bike rack plus the bikes carried upon it is less than 300 lbs. If you click the provided link, you can see the # 306-X7309 hitch being installed on a 2017 Golf.

  • Difference Between The Draw-Tite and the EcoHitch Hitches for a 2019 Volkswagen Golf R
The main difference between the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24975 and EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7332 is the receiver tube size. The EcoHitch has a 2" receiver tube instead of 1 1/4" on the Draw-Tite. 2" receivers have the widest variety of accessories, that's why I would highly recommend the EcoHitch. Both hitches are going to have the same weight ratings, 200 lbs TW, and 2,000 Lbs GTW. If you going to use it for a bike rack, the total weight of...

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2015 VW Golf Type R
I'll start off by addressing your first question; yes, the Draw-Tite # 24975 is a confirmed fit on your 2015 VW Golf type R. When it comes to choosing between the EcoHitch # 306-X7333 and the Draw-Tite, you'll find that the EcoHitch is just a little bit more hidden than the Draw-Tite hitch-but they're both technically concealed cross-tubes; the 2" EcoHitch # 306-X7332 will also be more hidden than the Draw-Tite since both EcoHitches are installed the same way. I generally feel like choosing...

We definitely have a way for you to use your boyfriend's bike rack on your 2018 VW Golf, whether its with an appropriately sized trailer hitch receiver or with a separate adapter. First, if your VW Golf happens to be the GTI or R model then we do have a 2 inch trailer hitch available. For the GTI you will use the EcoHitch # 306-X7375 and for the R model you would use the EcoHitch # 306-X7332. • Installation of Hitch on 2019 VW Golf R and Interference With Blind Spot Monitors
I've gone ahead and linked the instructions to the Draw-Tite # 24975 where it shows photos of where the blindspot monitors are removed during the installation of this hitch. When we haven't physically installed this here in our shop, I do usually tend to trust the manufacturer instructions, but it's always possible that the instructions may be different on this year and model. I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite and he seemed to think that the instructions were accurate for installation...

As you mentioned, there are several hitches available with 1-1/4" receivers for your 2019 Volkswagen Golf R- the Draw-Tite # 24975 and the EcoHitch # 306-X7332. I've listed the dimensions of the cutouts below, but the Draw-Tite cutout is going to be slightly smaller than the cutout required to install the EcoHitch. Cutout sizes: 2-1/2’’ tall by 3-1/2” wide- Draw-Tite # 24975 3-1/4” wide x 3” tall - EcoHitch # 306-X7332 There is also a 2" EcoHitch # 306-X7333 available for the...

  • Do Trailer Hitch Receivers for the 2016 Volkswagen Golf R Require Trimming
We have trailer hitch receivers to fit your 2016 Volkswagen Golf R but he Curt you asked about, part # C11475, isn't designed for your car. It's for the 2017 model. We have two hitches from EcoHitch and one from Draw-Tite that fit your 2016. From EcoHitch one is a 2 inch, part # 306-X7332, and the other is a 1-1/4 inch, part # 306-X7333. I recommend the 2 inch because it's compatible with more accessories than the smaller hitch is. Both of them do require trimming to the fascia. The...

The best thing about the EcoHitch is that it is designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. The hitch's cross tube bolts onto your vehicle's frame, behind your rear bumper. No drilling or welding is required. If you can tell me what you will be using the hitch for I would be glad to...
