Question:

Searching for a covered, secure trailer hitch carrier that can be used interchangeably with both a Jeep Wrangler and 2018 Unity Leisure Travel RV with a Mercedes Sprinter chassis. I am really wanting one that will allow me to get into my Jeep with it on. The Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier - 2" Hitches Y62VR sounds good but I need an option that has a lower price point. Any recommendations that would fit both? Thanks,

I do have a solution for you, but it is a little bit of a different style than the Yakima EXO # Y62VR.

For your application I recommend the 24x48-3/4 Carpod Walled, Folding Cargo Carrier # M2205-01-02. This is essentially a cage that comes with a bag to help protect your cargo against the weather. You can add a lock to the cage with the Master Lock # ML312KA and then you can lock the shank of the carrier with the part # 63232.

As for rear clearance on your Jeep and RV we have the Yakima BackSwing Swing Away Hitch Extender # Y02483. This easily allows you to gain rear access to both of your vehicles.

Just be mindful that this adapter cuts the weight capacity of your trailer hitch in half and the extender only has a weight capacity of 250 lbs. So you need to make sure that you don't exceed the weight rating of either of your trailer hitches when they are cut in half and then you can only load 196 lbs in the carrier as the carrier weighs 54 lbs.

Aside from that you either need to use the Rola option or sacrifice the rear door of your Jeep to use the Thule option.
