How to Lift Class B Motorhome Off Ground to Protect Tires and Suspension for Full-Time Occupancy

Question:

Hello, I have a 1986 Ford E250 Coachmen Class B motorhome. GVWR 7,900. I want to lift the van off the ground full time, for everyday living in order to take stress and weight off the shocks and springs. Can stabilizer Jacks be used for this purpose? If not what is the proper device? Thank you!

Lifting your parked RV will help protect your tires from flat spots but stabilizer jacks like # UF48-979002 or # TJ01RT-HD are not suitable since they are not designed to handle the entire weight of the RV, only to support/stabilize a portion of it.

A better solution is the TrailerLegs Tire Saver Stands # 326-TRLLG-4 which support the RV by the axles. The stands take all load off the tires which will prevent bends to the steel belts; bending of the belts is non-reversible. The stands will still have the van's suspension under load since they support the axles but compared to the small contact patch of a tire resting on the ground the Tire Savers have a big stable footprint with 8 times the stability of rubber tires.

To take the load off both your tires and the van's suspension you will need to use something like cinder blocks or a wood post under the van's frame and lift it with a floor jack like # ALL620422 or a bottle jack like # ALL620471. You will ideally have support under the entire accessible part of the frame on both sides.
