Can I Use My Car Hauler To Move My Stuff Out Of State With a 2006 Ford F-450

Question:

Hello. I have a 25ft toy hauler with two 7k pound axles. Im currently moving out of state 1500 miles and Im pulling it with my 2006 F-450 dually flatbed my toy hauler is a bumper pull and Im wondering if I could use the toy hauler to move my rollaway toolbox tools couches a fish tank and household goods Im packing most of the heavyweight over the axles

If your car hauler is an enclosed car hauler you can use it to move as long as you do not exceed the maximum tongue weight that your particular 2006 Ford F-450 and the gross combined weight rating of the vehicle. If your car hauler is an open car hauler (without rails) it is not a good idea to tow household cargo on it. I was able to find your owner's manual and the GCWR depends on the engine and transmission. The gross combined weight is the weight of the loaded vehicle, including passengers/cargo and the weight of the trailer. The tongue weight rating depends on your hitch, if you are using weight distribution and the engine.

If you take a look at your Ford there should be a sticker in the driver's side door jamb that shows you the GCWR and you do not want to exceed that weight. If you subtract the weight of the truck while loaded and passenger/driver weight from that number, that is how much cargo you can tow in the trailer as long as 10% of that weight (tongue weight) does not exceed your tongue weight rating of the vehicle. If you cannot find this information on the sticker, I was able to find a chart on page 156 and 157 of the owner's manual so take a look there.
