Expert Reply:
The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems 12k head for part # EQ37120ET weighs around 22 lbs and the Equal-i-zer 14k Weight Distribution Systems head for part # EQ37140ET weighs around 25 lbs. However, when calculating tongue weight for a weight distribution system you would not add the weight of the system into the calculations.
To choose a weight distribution system you want to go by the total weight of the setup. You would need to calculate the total tongue weight of the trailer when it is loaded and ready to tow. Then add any weight you may have behind the rear axle of the vehicle. You want a weight distribution system that is designed for a range of tongue weights where yours falls in the middle. If the WDS system is overrated for the trailer it will cause a stiff and unpleasant ride. If the WDS system is underrated for your trailer it will not be effective for distributing the weight and controlling sway.
I have attached help articles to help you determine your tongue weight with a scale like part # e99044.
If your tongue weight ends up being between 1,000 lbs - 1,400 lbs- The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control part # EQ37140ET is the best option for you.
If your tongue weight ends up falling in the middle of 800 lbs - 1,200 lbs The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control part # EQ37120ET is the best option for you.
Both of these options allow for backing up, come with all of the components of the system except for a thin walled socket which will be needed for installation purposes part # ALL643216.
