If I have a four wire and I want the minim needed to connect the C51180, do I just attach the black 12v and the ground and ignore the blue and yellow wires?

That is correct. Since the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 only requires 12V power to function properly you just need to plug in the 4-Way, ground the white wire, and then route the black wire to the battery on your vehicle through the included circuit breaker for the Kit # ETBC7L.
