Easiest To Install Brake Controller for a 1999 Suburban Trailer with Z82 Package

Thank you for taking my question. I have a 1999 Suburban with build code Z82 option. The vehicle has a 7 prong at the rear with the hitch, although I am unsure if the 7 prong is factory or not. I just purchased a 2019 PJ 18 foot Car Hauler that comes with Dexter #3500 pound tandem axles, Dexter electric brakes standard. What does it take on my part to make sure the Suburban is fitted properly for use of electric trailer brakes?

Since your 1999 Chevrolet Suburban came with the Z82 Trailering Package it should have both a factory 7-way and trailer hitch therefore the only other thing you will need to set your vehicle up for towing a trailer with brakes is a brake controller. I recommend using the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 because it does not require any other modifications to the tow vehicle so you will be up and running once plugged into the 7-way.
If you were to use a standard brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 you would need to run a bunch of wires and splice into the vehicle's wires which takes both time and money. The Curt Echo is also much easier to operate as it uses a device you are already comfortable with, your phone. Therefore, you don't have to learn a bunch of codes like you would for the Tekonsha Prodigy P2.
