Dico Surge Brake Actuator that Looks like Model 60 Replacement
Updated 05/28/2019 | Published 05/25/2019 >
Question:
I have an aluminum Trailex open car trailer purchased about 1990. It is a dual axle trailer with the front wheels having drum brakes. It was purchased as a lightweight trailer and Im guessing it weighs somewhere around 800#. It is used to haul a 1400# antique car. It has a Dico surge brake system using a 2inch trailer ball. There are no visible numbers, just the name embossed on a plate on the back of the hitch. The surge brake system is now rusty and needs replacing. It looks to me to be almost identical to the Titan Dico model 60 with minor differences in the brakeaway brake lever and the hitch locking lever. The trailer will not be used again until October 2019 so I have the time to get the correct parts. Can you please advise me as to which hitch assembly I should purchase for a replacement?

The best solution we have is going to be a new surge coupler like the # 099-175-00. Some of the Dico and Titan parts are interchangeable in recent years but since your trailer is almost 30 years old it's tough to say what all would still work. Plus you have to consider it's hard to know what all would need to be replaced so replacing the entire coupler gives you all new parts and frees you from having to worry about the next old part on the coupler that may wear out.
