Replacement Water Heater Gas Regulator for Atwood 91043

Question:

I have an Atwood water heater in a ‘94 fifth wheel I’m rehabbing and need to replace the pilot controller. It is the white rodgers model no. 37C14u-4. Atwood no. MPD-91043. Is this one compatible or do you guys have one that is?

There should be an electric igniter on the upper right portion of your Atwood water heater that you just need to switch on (after turning the knob to "Pilot"). If you don't see anything there let me know.

@ChrisR Hi Chris Just reading your answers to the Atwood MPD 91043 hot water heater. We have one in our 1996 trailer and our issues are: Pilot light goes out when changed to the “on” position Any ideas and where to purchase replacement parts We’re in Canada Thanks

I have a 94 Jayco trailer with this exact model in it. The pilot lights, eventually the water heater lights, but doesn’t stay lit. We have had to tap on the regulator a couple times to get it to go. Does this sound like something we need to just change the regulator for?

We just acquired a 05 Skyline Weekender. It has the same Atwood mpd-91043. A few things and not sure if related. When the unit is turned to on or to pilot there is no gas getting through to the burner. The unit does not have an electrical igniter switch visible on the upper right. When turned to pilot the igniter is silent, not sure if it should be clicking. Any suggestions?

Your Atwood MPD-91043 is a manual pilot and so just switching it on will not automatically make the clicking sound - those sounds will happen when you press the manual pilot button. If you aren't getting any gas and the manual pilot isn't working then my contact at Dometic said the issue is your gas valve so you'll need the Gas Regulator # 91602.

@JonG Bought the 91062 and propane inlet port is larger and does not fir my flare fitting? I dont think this is a diret replacement. Also the inlet port is about 3/4 higher so will have to rework copper gas line.

@Patrick This regulator is for specific Atwood water heaters: Works with gas only models: AT94180, AT94191, AT96110, AT96121, or AT96136 Works with gas and electric models: AT94022, AT94023, AT94186, AT96117, AT96161SU, or AT96163 If you have a different model then that would be why you're needing to make some modifications for it to work.

Hi, I have a 1987 bigfoot camper that has a Atwood hot water tank MPD-91043 gas regulator. It is a manual light. I can light the pilot and fire the hot water tank up to heat .... seems to run for about 2 minutes and then poof it switches off. I can re light it and poof about 2 minute later is shuts down again pilot and all. It seems to turn off and on by changing the temp regulator before this problem happens. I did get it to heat to temp and it fired up once I ran some water out. After a while I tried starting from scratch and the same problem occurred. The unit was sitting for some time. Please help. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thank in advance! Looking forward to hearing back from you. Peter

@Peter That does sound like a regulator issue to me. I have had similar issues in the past and do note there is a slight chance the issue is with the thermocouple as well. So I would have both tested if you plan to keep your water heater. As Atwood parts are often obsolete due to no longer being in business it may be a good idea to replace it with a new Water Heater # DMC74FR. If you can verify which water heater model you have I can help you with replacement options.
