Question:
Have a 2019 ram classic crew cab 5.7l with 3.21 gears, max trailer weight rating equals 8240. I am needing to flat tow a 2012 ram crew cab 4.7l 4x4 with auto and the neutral transfer case. Is there any issues with this? Also, the 2012 ram base curb weight is 5260. It will be empty and maybe 1/4 tank gas. is a 5000 pound tow bar enough, or do I need at least a 6000? I am driving 1600 miles from kansas to florida then shipping this vehicle across seas, and to never use this tow bar again, so trying to find the cheapest/safest method possible for a one time use. Thanks!

There are quite a few parts you will need to flat tow your 2012 Ram 1500, and you will need an appropriately-rated tow bar, as well as base plates, safety chains, a lighting system and a supplemental braking system; I will give you the most cost-effective options for each for this truck.
- Base Plates: Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 52289-1
- Tow Bar: Roadmaster StowMaster Tow Bar # RM-501, which will require your current truck have a ball mount and 2" hitch ball. You will need to make sure your ball mount is low enough that you are towing level. I have added a link to our selection of ball mounts if you need a new one with more drop.
- Safety Chains: RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643
- Lights: E-Z Mount Tow Light Kit # RM-2120
- Supplemental Braking System: Brake Buddy Stealth Supplemental Braking System # HM39530. A supplemental braking system is a legal requirement in most states now, and since you are driving across the country you will need to have this. It will also make your trip much safer.
