Rated Towing Capacity of 2010 Dodge Journey with 2.4L Engine

Have a 2010 Dodge Journey need to tow a trailer 2600.lbs 10 miles have 4 cylinder with tranny cooler

The online owner's manual for the 2010 Dodge Journey indicates (page 367) that the 2.4L version can tow up to 1000-lbs and this includes up to 5 persons and luggage. It also states that the most the vehicle and trailer together can weigh (the GCWR or gross combined weight rating) is 6000-lbs. Since the curb weight of the vehicle is a bit under 4000-lbs this suggests the car could tow close to 2000-lbs. This is shy of the 2600-lbs but not by a whole lot.

I cannot recommend you do anything that is contrary to what your printed manual tells you, but if I were in your place and needed to tow a 2600-lb trailer just 10 miles and only one time, I might choose to take the risk. That decision is yours and I recommend you consider instead borrowing a friend's vehicle or even renting one for a few hours.

Good day,I have a mazda cx 7 2.3L turbo and i need to know if I can tow a 2500lbs pop up camper with electric brakes and Weight Distribution with sway control bars.I am thinking to use your curt echo to connect to my 4 way connector with adaptor to 7 way.Thank you for your help.

I would love to help you with some specifics on your towing capacity but I need the year of your Mazda CX-7 to assist. You can look up your towing capacity in your owner's manual. If you can tow that trailer, you can add the correct 4 way trailer wiring harness through our vehicle fit guide and then use the # ETBC7L along with the Curt Echo # C51180. Your hitch receiver will need to be rated high enough to tow but also rated for use of a weight distribution system. I assume based on your vehicle model there won't be a weight distribution system compatible. You can still use sway control if you use # RP26003 and a friction bar like # 83660.
