Question:

I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cher. It has Rear Load Leveling Suspension and Trailer Sway Damping. Would I hook up level or raise the ball as in your video, also would the included Sway Damping system somehow work against your system ?.

First, since your 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners manual may have special recommendations in terms of weight distribution and sway control because it has the special load leveling and sway dampening systems installed. That would be the first thing I would check.

When installing a system, the load leveling typically does not affect how you would install the weight distribution. On some vehicles, this system can be disabled. On other vehicles, it is not as easy to disable so you would just have to tow with it engaged.

Other vehicles that have an anti-sway system on them actually work quite differently than the dual-cam sway control in # RP66074. Usually found on full size trucks, some types of factory systems speed up or slow down one side of the vehicle in order to stop trailer sway. If the system on your Jeep is like this, it should not be an issue.

The dual-cam system works just at the trailer side by proactively and aggressively resisting the start of sway by forcing the trailer to ride in straight line behind the towing vehicle.

When choosing a system you will need to know the tongue weight of the trailer and then add in the weight of any gear loaded behind the rear axle of the Jeep. Once you have the tongue weight you will want to find a system that has a tongue weight capacity range that encompasses the tongue weight you have found.

The system you have referenced has a wide tongue weight capacity range of 600 to 1,200 pounds. I have included links to the installation details and to our FAQ on weight distribution and sway control for you. With this system you will also need a shank, # RP54970 and a ball like # 19286.
