Why isn't 2019 Volkswagen Atlas Rated for Weight Distribution If Hitch that Fits It Is

Question:
Why does Volkswagen recommend NOT using anti sway systems on the Atlas? They show images of it being able to tow yet it’s limited to 500 tongue and 5000 gross. You would think that with how well these systems balance out the load to vehicle that it would be recommended. We have an Atlas and would love to tow a rv but I’m not so sure it’s worth it if you can’t utilize systems these.

Weight distribution systems put a bit more torque on the hitch and frame of the vehicle due to the spring bars pulling up pretty hard on the head of the system. Not every vehicle/hitch is going to be heavy duty enough to allow this and not potentially damage anything. We have trailer hitches for your 2019 Volkswagen Atlas that are rated for weight distribution like the Draw Tite part # 76176 but if the manufacturer of the vehicle says you can't use a WD system we cannot recommend it either. The hitches are designed to fit the vehicle but then also designed to be as strong as possible which is why the hitches will typically have higher towing capacities.
Also, with any towing capacity you are limited by the lowest rated component in the setup.
