Question:
I have a 2016 Heartland Gateway 3400SE and I want to mount a receiver hitch on the frame for a bike rake. I will not be towing anything, just utilizing a bike rake. I was told by Heartland RVs that Lippert made the chassis and bumper and would be able to tell me if the rear structure of my 5th wheel is strong enough to handle the weight of a bike rack and the bikes it carries and what the limitations are. Lippert asked me to contact Heartland. Because it will be mounted on the back of my fifth wheel, I know that the bike rack and bikes will bounce around more than if mounted on the back of my truck and I want to make sure that I wont have any problems. I have a Solaris bike rack that is very strong and Im not concerned about it holding up. Is this something you can help me with? Thank you very much!!

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Curt multi-fit hitch part # 13703 that you referenced would be an excellent choice for a hitch as it basically can fit any frame style on an RV that ranges from 22 inches to 72 inches measured from outside to outside.
Curt requires the use of their stabilizer strap part # 18050 when using their hitch to carry a non-supported load like a bike rack. I attached a review video for you to check for the strap as well.
You should check to make sure your bike rack is RV approved as not all of them are since the ride quality is much rougher at the back of a trailer than a vehicle. I also attached a link to all of our RV approved bike racks for you to check out too.
