Question:
Hi, so my outback has a 4 way connection already. So if I install the etbc7l 7 way upgrade kit, all I have to connect is to the battery and to ground? I am planning on using the Kurt echo c5118u with the system. There is no other wiring necessary? That sounds too easy. Thanks.

You are correct. The Curt Echo is a great choice because of its convenience and simple installation. The kit part # ETBC7L when used with the Curt Echo part # C51180 only requires the black power wire to extend to the positive side of the battery and the white wire ground to a clean, bare metal surface.
You may tuck the yellow and blue wire away. Since the Curt Echo adjusts braking by sensing the deceleration of the vehicle instead of wiring to the brake switch, you do not need the blue wire. The yellow wire is the reverse light wire, if you have reverse lights on your trailer. I have attached a couple of Curt Echo brake controller videos for your reference.
