Question:
Hi, You recommend the Curt Echo wireless controller for the Touareg. When i have asked others about using this wireless controller they were concerned that plugging this into the 7 pin connector on the Touareg might interfere with the Touareg recognizing the trailer. This is important as the plugging in a trailer to the Touareg enables a number of useful features transmission re-mapping, anti-sway etc that I do not want to lose. It seems unlikely that this would happen but I wanted to check to see if you or Curt have any information on this? Thanks

The Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 is indeed an excellent option for your 2016 Volkswagen Touareg. The concerns you have of the device interfering with the integrated features such as transmission shift point adjustments and anti-sway prevention are valid but not an issue with the Curt Echo. The device is simply a pass through that intercepts the brake output circuit and applies varying voltage accordingly. It even works with factory brake controllers as well. I called Curt just to be sure and they have not had any complaints with these features on a Volkswagen Touareg.
If your Volkswagen Touareg came with a factory 7-way trailer connector then you are good to go and you will not need any additional parts to use the device. However, if it did not come with a factory 7-way trailer connector then you can add one using both the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118668 and the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit part # ETBC7L.
I have attached a comprehensive review video of the Curt Echo if you want to learn about more of its features.
