Question:

For a light duty utility trailer originally outfitted with no brakes and 12inch rims 4inch wide assuming 0 wheel offset, I would like to upgrade to 13inch rims 4.5inch wide and 45mm 1.77 positive wheel offset. This would put the tire about 2inch closer to the trailers frame. Can you give me an approximate counteracting offset when adding an electric brake Item # AKEBRK-2 and hub, would be to an axle that previously had only a hub ie: does the wheel mounting surface now get pushed about 2inch away from the frame when adding the brake so as to allow usage of this replacement wheel?

For any hub/drum to fit your spindles it must use the same inner and outer bearings. This means any of those hubs' hub face, which is the wheel mounting surface, will be in the same position on the spindles as with your current idler hubs.

Most of the 13 x 4-1/2-inch trailer wheels we offer have 0 offset but a few have some offset, such as Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20214 and # AM20212 which have 0.5-inch positive offset. None has the 1.77-inch offset you mention. These wheels will accept two tire sizes, 175/80-13 and 185/80-13.

So installing a hub/drum to enable using brakes like # AKEBRK-2 will change the wheel/tire position relative to the trailer only by the available wheel's specific offset.
