Do Axles Need to be Adjusted for Adding Beavertail to Car Hauler Trailer
Updated 02/04/2019 | Published 02/02/2019 >
Question:
I am considering upgrading my axles and springs and adding a beavertail to my 16 foot car hauler to aid in loading. Do I need to reposition the axle hangers for the extra length? I dont expect to carry any of the load with the extensions. Thanks.

Possibly. It really just depends on how heavy they are. If you add the beavertail to your 16' car hauler and the tongue weight of your unloaded trailer is 10-15% of the weight of the trailer then you don't need to move anything.
However, of adding the beavertail does change the unloaded tongue weight of your trailer so that it is below or above the 10-15% tongue weight range then you will need to adjust your axles accordingly. If you always have your car loaded then you might be able to load the car a little more forward to compensate for the extra weight at the back but if you will be pulling the trailer empty fairly often it might be worth moving your axles.
