Tongue Weight Capacity of 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Hello. I am looking at the Curt hitch part C13182 for my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee but trying to figure out what my tongue weight capacity is. I know the hitch has a 600 pound number but what about the Jeep? Is it more?

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13182 for your 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee does indeed feature a 600 pound tongue weight capacity. You are right to also verify the tongue weight capacity of your Jeep because you will always be limited by your weakest component.

If the Jeep has a lower tongue weight rating than 600 pounds then you will need to follow the lower number. If the Jeep actually has a higher tongue weight capacity you will still be limited by the 600 pound rating on the hitch.

I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your Jeep Grand Cherokee and it looks like there are a few possible tongue weight ratings depending on your exact model. They are as follows:

3.6L Engine (Std Cooling) 4x2 or 4x4 - 350 pound max tongue weight
3.6L Engine (HD Cooling) 4x2 or 4x4 - 620 pound max tongue weight
5.7L Engine (Std Cooling) 4x4 - 500 pound max tongue weight
5.7L Engine (HD Cooling) 4x4 - 720 max tongue weight

Chris - I have the 3.6L with standard cooling 4x2. I added a hitch and flashed the computer to activate the towing features as the factory wiring was already in place. Can I tow 2800 lbs (max is 3500) but with tongue weight of 420 lbs (max is listed at 350 lbs)?
