Question:
Hi- I traded in my car and will now be using my wife’s 2014 Honda CR-V ex. It has a bare roof. It is insanely expensive to have dealership install side rails and cross bars. I need a cost effective/ safe option. What would you recommend? I want a rack that I can leave on for extended periods of time. this would be used to transport a 2016 Hobie outback kayak. Around 75 pounds.

The roof rack I recommend for your 2014 Honda CR-V with a naked roof is from Inno because it is the most economical option as well as highly functional and safe. The rack consists of:
- Inno Square Crossbars # INB127
- Inno Feet for Square Crossbars # INSUT
- Custom Fit Kit for Inno # INK413
These are 50 inch square crossbars that are made of steel, have an elastomer coating to prevent corrosion and come with a lifetime warranty. Since you mentioned you wanted to leave the rack on for extended periods of time I strongly recommend using a wind fairing to greatly minimize the wind noise that you would otherwise encounter with square crossbars. The best option will be the 40 inch Inno Fairing # INA261.
To carry your 2016 Hobie Outback kayak I recommend checking out the Thule DockGrip Kayak Carrier # TH895 because it is a saddle-style carrier that has pivoting heads which will make it easier for you to load and unload your kayak. This carrier also comes with tie-down straps and bow/stern anchors, and will simply clamp around your Inno crossbars. It can carry a single kayak and has a 85 lb capacity, which is more than enough for your Hobie kayak.
I have added links to some video reviews of these products for you to take a look at as well.
