Installing Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector

Updated 01/10/2025 | Published 12/24/2018

Question:

I need to replace my hard wired co/propane detector in my travel trailer. Can I do this without disconnecting my trailer batteries? I dont have a shut off switch If so, does it matter which of the two wires I connect first? Thank you

When replacing your existing detector with the Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector # AT36681 you will not need to disconnect the 12V trailer batteries. It also does not matter which of the two power wires you connect first. The third (black) wire is for ground.

I have attached a short video review on this unit that you can also check out.

I want to dismantle the Atwood CO2 detector completely and just use a Plug in monitor to avoid any future beeping. Is this possible? Would I just cut the wires and put end caps on them and be good to go? I just didn't want to do anything that's unsafe. Thank you
