which hitch do you recommend? It is a turbo diesel. I did not know if that is the same hitch as a turbo gasoline model

You would want a Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch # 60902. This hitch is compatible with all of the turbo model 2002 Volkswagen New Beetles except for the Turbo S and should work very well for you.
