Question:
We have a 2018 Edge SE and will be getting a small travel trailer soon. We need a hitch, wiring and other basic towing items. We have narrowed down our trailer selection to two smaller Teardrop models, one has brakes but the other does not. Can you also give us the brake controller parts just in case we decide on the trailer with brakes? Both have a 2-inch coupler, I know that, and both have a maximum weight under 3000-lbs if that helps.

The hitch I recommend for your 2018 Ford Edge SE is the Draw-Tite Class III hitch # 75234. This 2-inch hitch bolts on, no drilling needed, using the included hardware packet. You can see the installation steps in both the linked instructions and the video we made that shows a 2018 Edge.
For a 4-pole wiring kit you can use kit # 118669 from Tekonsha which installs through plugging in connectors at the car's tail lights and running one wire up to the battery to power the harness. The written instructions, a help article and a video are all included to assist your harness installation.
Since you're not sure which trailer you're going with I suggest the Ball Mount Kit # 989900 which includes the 2-inch hitch ball along with two different ball mounts to provide height adjustment to keep the trailer level when hitched. This kit also includes a 1-7/8-inch ball and a hitch pin. If you care to replace this basic pin with an anti-rattle locking pin use part # 63232. I also suggest a set of universal towing mirrors # KS3990 to give you a better view of the trailer and the other motorists behind you.
If you choose the trailer without brakes, then the items above are all that you need. But if you choose the trailer with electric brakes you will need a brake controller and an installation kit. The install kit # ETBC7 includes everything you need to wire a brake controller such as the reliable and easy-to-use Prodigy P3 # 90195 from Tekonsha.
The P3 has a large clear display to keep you up to date on its operation and it gives you more flexibility in terms of where you can install it. You can refer to the linked video to see the P3's features and installation.
