I want to replace the silver cap on this hub kit with a bearing buddy so I can use the grease zerks to fill the bearings with grease. Will a bearing buddy be compatible with this hub kit?

We do indeed have Bearing Buddy Kits that are compatible with the etrailer.com Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-440-2-1K. This particular hub features a hub bore diameter of 1.98 inches so the 1.98 inch Stainless Steel Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors # BB1980A-SS or the Chrome Plated # BB1980A will work perfectly.
As you mentioned in your question these will allow you to easily add grease to the hubs and bearings with the accessible grease fitting. They will also do a great job of keeping water and dirt out of the hubs.
