There are several great brake controllers out there, but it is really hard to beat the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller, # RED44FR, because of its superior combination of quality, function and versatility.
Redarc is the #1 brake controller brand that is made and sold in Australia and they made their way to the United States in 2018. This brake controller can be used in proportional mode or user control mode with the press of a button and the gain setting is set by simply turning the knob. The days of having to deal with multiple gain and boost dials and manual override levers are over. You simply turn the dial to set the gain and press the knob to activate the manual override. Using this brake controller is just as easy as turning on your windshield wipers or headlights.
I personally leave the brake controller in proportional mode to keep the truck and trailer braking in sync for towing around town and on the highway. The user controlled mode works better in off-road conditions or conditions where you need to precisely control the trailer brakes with more or less intensity than the tow vehicle.
The only part of this brake controller that is exposed is the knob (see photos). Redarc also offers universal and vehicle specific dash panel inserts like part # 331-TPSI-001 for a factory look. Most people prefer this over the traditional box style brake controllers that mount to the bottom of the dash and turn into knee-knockers.
I attached a few videos and instructions for you to check out.
