Wiring Single Wire Trailer Clearance Lights
Updated 10/16/2018 | Published 10/15/2018 >
Question:
With a single wire light is the “skin” or siding on the trailer used to ground the light? Or do you need to ground back to the frame for each light? Or can you just run a ground wire with a power wire. The found being bound to the trailer frame.

Expert Reply:
The single wire clearance lights like # MCL44AB1 will be grounded through the mounting. You can either mount these to the frame of the trailer or structural components connected to the frame of the trailer. The siding or skin of the trailer is not likely to be a good enough ground. You can run a common ground wire to the series of lights used if there is not a good connection between them.
I've attached some videos and articles to assist.
