Question:

I have a 2018 ford edge SEL with the roadmaster battery disconnect installed. Since when towing the battery is essentially disconnected with the key on, how is the battery being discharged during towing ? I see no purpose in the charging kit if the battery is disconnected how can it get discharged .. what am I missing here ?

A charge line like # RM-156-25 is a good idea for your 2018 Ford Edge if you have a braking system that is using power from the towed vehicles battery (which most supplemental braking systems do) while it is disconnected using the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect # RM-766.

Long trips will drain your vehicle battery a little from all the braking without any additional charge going to the battery. This is a good idea to keep your battery maintained with charge, but it is not a requirement. I've attached a video of the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251 which shows an alternative disconnect without the charge line as an option. I personally would rather have the charge line for peace of mind that my car will start when I want it to after a long trip.
