Question:

I used to have a Yakima roof rack on my old Subaru but sold the car. now I have a 2019 Outback and I'd like another Yakima roof rack since my old one held up very well. My Outback is not the touring version. might put a bike and kayak carrier up there.

I'm glad to hear you had a good owner experience with your last Yakima roof rack and I am happy to help you with a new one for your 2019 Outback Wagon non-Touring edition.

My favorite Yakima roof rack is their black Jetstream aero-style bar roof rack. This system consists of parts # Y00425, # Y53TR and # Y00241. The black crossbars lend a clean OEM-like appearance and they will be much quieter than basic round Yakima bars (or any other bar shape for that matter) since their design allows them to cut through the air more easily and with less turbulence. This rack will look great and provide you with up to 165-lbs of roof load capacity. The linked video will let you see more on the design and installation of this quality roof rack.

Most roof-mount accessories like bike racks and kayak carriers will fit on these aero-style bars. The pages I linked for you display all compatible roof bike racks and kayak carriers.

For a wheel-mount type bike carrier I like the Yakima HighRoad # Y02114 which is compatible with disc brakes and various thru-axle and fork sizes. The included video shows installation on an Outback. For a kayak carrier that provides assisted loading from the rear of the Outback I suggest the HandRoll # Y04082-2. This roller-style carrier takes some of the hassle out of loading a kayak and it includes tie downs and offers an 80-lb weight rating. Please see the video on this carrier for more.
