Does Offset Gooseneck Hitch Affect Having Hitch Centered Above Rear Axle
Published 08/30/2018 >
Question:
I have a Ram 2500 mega cab. I would like to install a goose and understand I I’ll need an offset to be able to have full clearance of the cab. My question is how will this affect the towing of the gooseneck? Is it going to defeat the purpose of having the weight over the axle?

When you use an offset the weight of the trailer is still placed in the truck bed where the hitch ball is. The offset does not move the weight back relative to the truck bed since the attachment point stays in the same area. If the trailer has a wide nose and you have a short bed truck typically a gooseneck offset won't allow you to make tight turns. That's the downside to gooseneck towing is there's not much you can do for short bed truck clearance unless the nose of the trailer is tapered.
If you let me know the year of your Ram 2500 and the bed length I can help you pick out the best hitch setup for it. Also if you let me know what you plan on towing I can see what would be overall your best option too. If it's a fifth wheel trailer like what the adapter # CAB-C5G you referenced is designed to fit a much better option could be a slider fifth wheel hitch instead.
