Does the 2017 chevy Colorado with 3.6l v6 have a smart alternator? do I need the relay in order to install the 25amp charger in the bed of my pickup truck?

According to my research yes, your 2017 Chevy Colorado does have a "smart alternator" although you will want to verify this. There should be a sensor on the post of your battery terminal if you do have a smart, or variable voltage, alternator.
If so then you would need the 60-Amp Relay Kit # 331-RK1260 to use the 25 amp Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1225D.
