Question:
Looks like my Sierra has both the blunt cut wires and a plug in. The wire number and colors match that of the so-callede blunt cut wire. Can I use this connection? 2011 Sierra w/ tow package

We have not seen a 2011 GMC Sierra that will have a factory brake controller plug-in for an aftermarket brake controller. All of the 2007 and newer GM full size trucks and SUVs quit offering a plug-in type connection. None of the brake controller harness manufacturers produce a plug and play wiring harness that will fit a 2011 GMC.
The plug you are referring to is probably not for the brake controller. If you need to find out what the plug is for you can use a circuit tester, part # PTW2993, and test the function of the wires on the plug.
You will need to use the blunt cut wires under the left side of the instrument panel to the left of the steering column to install a brake controller. The wires can be identified by a white label and the color of the wires. The wire colors are (1) Red/Black wire, (1) White wire, (1) Light Blue/White wire and (1) Dark Blue wire and possibly (1) Orange wire. If you have the orange wire it is not needed for a brake controller. I am including a link to a video of a brake controller being installed on a 2008 GMC Sierra. It will show where the wires are located.
I do offer a pigtail wiring harness like the Draw-Tite Pigtail Harness, part # 20127, that will have blunt wires on one end that you can connect to the blunt wires on your vehicle. The other end of the harness will have a plug that will plug into the brand of brake controller you will be using. This # 20127 harness is for Tekonsha and Draw-Tite brake controllers.
I am including a link to a FAQ page on brake controller installation in a 2007 and newer GM truck.
