Replacement Key for GM-Branded Rooftop Cargo Box

Updated 08/06/2018 | Published 08/03/2018

Question:

Hi I have an older GM cargo carrier that the key has gone missing for. I cannot find the model box but the serial number under the lock is NR 02441. Are you familier with this serial number or know if you have a replacement lock? Thanks

Thank you for the photo of your older GM-branded rooftop cargo box for which you need some replacement keys.

Often the major makers of such items, companies like Thule and Yakima, will actually produce cargo boxes for OEM brands like GM. Years back Thule made cargo boxes for Sears and so Thule keys work on these Sears boxes. My Thule contact advised that Thule-Europe did make some OEM cargo boxes for that market years back.

The cargo box serial number is not what we use to match up new keys to a lock; it is the actual lock core code that appears on the face of the lock near to where the key will be inserted. For example, for a Yakima lock with code A134 the correct key is part # Y8772-A134. For a Thule lock with code N055 the correct key is # THKEYN055.

If you can tell me what letters/numbers appear right on the lock face I can check to see if we have a matching key that will work. You can also send a close-up photo of the lock too.
