Question:

Hi! I am looking for a Bike/Trailer Hitch for my 2017 Mazda Miata RF. I was looking at the Hard Dog and Curt for the hitch. I am leaning towards the Curt because of the price and easier install. In any case, Jameson posted some information but I was a little confuses. I thought he recommended the BMW hitch so you dont need that strap to secure along with a Saris bike rack. However, the BMW rack says it is not recommended for the Mazda. Also, should I get a 1 1/4inch or 2inch hitch. And, how easy is the install? Thanks again for your help.

For your 2017 Mazda Miata we have the Curt hitch part # C11435 as a confirmed fit that would work well. At one point Curt was very strict about requring a stabilizer strap with non-supported loads like bike racks but at this time they have softened on that and instead only recommend it. This is a 1-1/4 inch hitch and is the only size we have for your vehicle.

The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this vehicle is the Thule Camber 2 part # TH9058. We asked our demo and install guys to name their favorite, most easy-to-use bike racks and this one showed up in nearly everyone's top three. Check out the review video I attached for more info.

If you plan on carrying any women's or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Kuat Bike Frame Adapter Bar # UB01 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to provide an attachment point. I attached a review video for this product also. This will allow the bikes to be carried more level and will provide more ground clearance.
