Why Don't Trailer Hitch Installs Require Loc-Tite
Published 07/19/2018 >
Question:
Hello There, I plan on installing my trailer receiver today or tomorrow. The instructions call for specific torque requirements, which is fine. The instructions do not call for it but would it help if I also added some blue Loctite to the bolts before torquing down. I have the Curt trailer receiver kit for 2015 Range Rover Sport.. Thanks,

Expert Reply:
Hitch hardware does not require Loc-Tite or any other thread lockers. Reason being the bolts are torque-to-yield bolts which means they stretch slightly as they tighten which works as a thread locker. This means that the hardware is one-time-use too.
