Do Trailer Lights have to be Grounded to the Main Trailer Connector Ground

Question:
My trailers white wire id grounded to the metal frame and does not reach to the lights. Do I need to add an extension to the bolts of the st9rb or can the lights run without the white wire connected to it?

As long as each of the lights on your trailer are grounded to a clean, bare metal surface then you will be good to go. On aluminum trailers though sometimes a jumper ground does need to be run to the main trailer connector ground. But not with steel frames.
