Question:
Hi, On a regulator such as this, do both propane tanks need to be opened in order for it to work? Ive always just opened one tank, but a friend told me that I am supposed to open both tanks, and that in order to remove a tank to be filled, the remaining tank needs to be closed. This hasnt been a problem for me yet since I always have taken both tanks off to be refilled at the same time, but it would be good to know for sure. Maybe an upgrade to an auto changeover regulator is in my future! Thanks,

The Camco Vertical 2-Stage Propane Regulator part # CAM59313 will not require that both tanks be opened in order to function but you can if you choose to do so. You will however, need to close off both tanks before either of them are removed. This regulator only has a single 1/4" NPT inlet so both tanks will need to be spliced into one another whereas the Camco Automatic Changeover 2-Stage Propane Regulator part # CAM59005 has dual 1/4" NPT inlets so both tanks can be attached directly.
In an automatic changeover setup, both tanks will need to be turned on and they must also both be turned off before either of them are removed. I highly recommend going with the automatic changeover for convenience and ease of use.
