Recommended Custom Frame Brackets for 5th Wheel Rails on 2010 GMC Sierra 1500

Published 07/16/2018

Question:

This is what I need for a 5.5 foot box? Will the rails from the old truck work with this bracket or do I have to order the new ones? Also will that set the hitch back a little so it won't hit my window when I turn?

For your 2010 GMC Sierra with the short box, you will need the Reese Quick-Install Custom Bracket Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50064 which will come with the mounting hardware. These brackets will fit industry standard base rails like # RP58058 and similar from other manufacturers. You will need to use the replacement hardware # RP58430 for those rails because they were torqued when installed the first time so cannot be reused.

The brackets # RP50064 will work with your rails from your old truck and are the correct fit for your truck model year on all the bed sizes so it is confirmed to fit your 5.5 foot bed. Your 5th wheel hitch from your 6.5 foot bed I'm assuming is a sliding hitch. Most of those hitches are not able to be used with the 5.5 foot bed to allow enough turning clearance. On the 5.5 foot bed, the use of a rotating pin box is what is recommended to ensure you have the needed turning clearance. This moves the pivot point of your trailer back 22 inches, but they are pin box number specific, so I've attached a link to assist. Sidewinders can be used with either a fixed mounted hitch or a sliding hitch. The slider, however, may not be used at the same time as the Sidewinder, so you would need to keep the slider in the front towing position at all times. Since you already have a hitch, I recommend simply adding the correct Sidewinder for your trailer. I've attached a link as well as some articles to assist.
