Question:
Hi. I have a 2015 Ram 1500. What is your recommendation for a braking system for my vehicle. And perhaps any additional tips you can include I would appreciate. Thank you.

To safely stop your 2015 Ram 1500 while it is being flat towed behind an RV, I highly recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251. This is a great proportional braking system that will activate the brakes in your truck at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in the RV. The system activates as soon as the RV's brake lights go on.
The really nice thing about this system is that after the initial installation there is no need to remove anything when you aren't towing or activate it again when you're ready for another trip. The operating unit itself will stay hidden and everything will automatically function when you hitch up to the RV.
I have attached a short video demonstration on this system, along with the written installation instructions that you can check out.
In addition to the braking system, you will also need base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, and a lighting solution to flat tow your Ram. I will make some recommendations if you don't have some or all of these items already.
For base plates I recommend the Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit # RM-52289-5. These are custom-fit for your truck as long as you don't have the Sport, Express, Laramie Limited, or Rebel model and they feature hidden brackets that will provide a clean look when you aren't towing. For a tow bar I like the Roadmaster Sterling All-Terrain # RM-576, which has an 8,000 pound capacity and a non-binding design for easy hookup. Safety cables are included with this tow bar so they won't need to be purchased separately.
For a lighting solution, I recommend the Roadmaster Flex-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This kit will let you wire your Ram to accept the RV's tail, brake, and turn signal lights for towing.
Finally, you will likely need a high-low adapter in order to keep the tow bar level. I have attached a great article that explains how to choose the right one for your setup, along with a link that will take you to our available selection. I have also included videos and instructions for the products mentioned, along with an FAQ on flat towing that you might find helpful.
