Which Way Should Star Wheel Turn When Adjusting Dexter Electric Brakes
Updated 07/02/2018 | Published 06/26/2018 >
Question:
Normally I would turn the teeth on the star wheel up to tighten the brakes. I just bought a trailer with dexter 10k axels and I have to turn the teeth on the star wheel down to tighten the brakes. Does this mean that the pads are mounted backwards? Thanks,

Expert Reply:
You should be turning the star wheel up to tighten your electric brakes, as you mentioned. This could mean they are improperly mounted and I recommend taking a look at your brake assemblies to see how they were put on. You will need to disassemble your hub to do this but you'll want to make sure your brakes were correctly put on. I've added a link to a video which shows how 12" Dexter brakes should be installed for you to use as a reference.
