How to Tow a 2016 Ford Edge EcoSport Behind a Motorhome
Question:
Owners manual says the 2.0 cannot be flat towed. The other two engine versions say they can be. Is there any way to get around that? I saw another post where a customer asked about what kind of equipment was needed to flat tow a 2.0 and he was answered with basically the usual type of equipment for a car the manufacturer of says is flat towable. So does that mean you can flat tow even if the manufacturer says you can’t?

I do have an option for you but as you mentioned, the 2016 Ford Edge EcoSport with the 2.0L I4 engine can't be flat-towed with four wheels down. This has to do with the automatic (6F35) transmission that is mated to the engine rather than the engine itself. This transmission will not be able to receive proper lubrication while the vehicle is towed with all four wheels down which is why it is not recommended.
Therefore, you have two options to tow your Edge behind a motorhome and they will depend on if you have an all wheel drive model or a front wheel drive model. If you have an all wheel drive model then the only way the vehicle can be towed behind a vehicle is on a trailer with all four wheels off the ground. If you have a front wheel drive model then you can tow the vehicle on a tow dolly with the front two wheels off the ground.
Please keep in mind that when choosing a tow dolly or trailer, it will need to be rated for not only the weight of your Edge which from my research can range anywhere from 3,927 to 4,401 lbs but also the wheel size which again from my research can range anywhere from 19 to 21" diameter. The wheel size will only be an issue when using a tow dolly.
