Parts Needed to Add 7-Way to 2005 Chevy Silverado with No Trailer Wiring At All

Updated 06/19/2018 | Published 06/16/2018

Question:

I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado as far as I know it does not have the trailer tow package behind the rear bumper mounted to the frame is a connection Junction bolted to the frame and has all the tail light wiring plugged into it I would like to put a 7 pin connector on the back so I have trailer brakes I know I will probably have to run two separate wires a blue and black but is there a 7-pin connector harness that plugs in to that junction box the one pictured in the question looks like it has to plug into a separate pigtail

That we are aware of every 2005 Chevy Silverado SHOULD have 7-way wiring at the rear of it. You should find a round connector behind the bumper but if you do not have that the next solution we'd have would be to hardwire in a 4-way and then convert it to a 7-way since we do not have any intermediate wiring available for your truck.

For that you'd have to start with the part # 119250KIT for the 4-way.

Now if your trailer does not have brakes all you would need is the part # 37185 as an adapter to convert the 4-way to a 7-way.

If you do have trailer brakes you would need the # ETBC7 instead of the # 37185 and a brake controller. This kit comes with everything needed to wire up the 7-way and install a brake controller.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
