Will the Pro Series Round, A-Frame Topwind Jack # PS1400600303 Work on 7,000-Lb A-Frame Car Trailer
Updated 09/07/2011 | Published 09/05/2011 >
Question:
I have a 16 foot A-Frame, Bri-Mar open car trailer built it 05 that I need to replace the jack on. It weighs 1,600lbs and has a 7,000lb weight capacity. I dont see any of the jack models listed with a higher weight capacity than 5,lbs. Does that weight rating mean for the empty weight of the trailer or the max weight of the trailer with cargo? If anything, I would rather get a new jack that exceeds capacity rather than fall below it. Thanks!

The Pro Series Round, A-Frame Topwind Jack, part # PS1400600303, has a lift capacity of 5,000 lbs and will work fine on your car trailer for lift capacity. The lift capacity means this jack is able to lift and support up to 5,000 lbs of tongue weight of the trailer. The jack will not be lifting the full weight of the trailer off of the ground.
An A-frame jack like the Pro-Series is mounted on the tongue of the trailer so it is rated to lift the tongue weight of the car trailer. If you have a 1,600-lb car trailer empty, the tongue weight range would be 10 to 15 percent or 160 to 240 lbs, so this jack would have enough capacity for your car trailer empty.
If your car trailer has a 7,000-lb weight capacity loaded, that would give you from 700 to 1,050 lbs tongue weight range which would still be well under the lift capacity of the Pro Series jack. To get the exact tongue weight, you will need to weigh the tongue weight of your trailer with the car trailer loaded.
This jack has a 15 inch lift, so you will want to make sure the amount of lift will match, or be greater than the jack that you are removing from your trailer.
