Does Lock # L1883 Allow Latch Function When Locked?

Updated 06/05/2018 | Published 06/02/2018

Question:

I need to put a lock on a mailbox. I need a lock with a latch that can still slide into place to latch when its locked. I will leave my mailbox door ajar so the delivery person can put mail in it and when they shut the door, it will be locked because I will leave it locked all the time like a house door can be set to lick while its open. If the L1883 lock is locked, will the latch still slide to lock once it passes the locking plate slot?

I went out to our warehouse to check on the "Junior" Locking Stainless Steel Flush Door Latch # L1883 you asked about. When locked, the latch will allow the spring loaded pin to move and latch into place. So it will allow you to lock the mailbox opening latch without closing it and then when it is closed it will lock so it cannot be opened without the key. It works just like a slam lock for a baggage door.
